Round Sacai Platter - Golden Handle
Description
The collaboration between Astier de Villatte and Sacai blends two distinct artistic visions through a shared sensibility. Inspired by Sacai founder Chitose Abe's frequent visits to Astier de Villatte’s Paris boutique, the partnership began in 2017 as a long-term artistic project rather than a simple capsule collection. Each year, a unique piece is introduced, starting with a two-handled mug in 2017.
This slow-evolving collection emphasizes deconstruction, hybridization, and artisanal craftsmanship. Abe’s exploration of unconventional shapes at Sacai inspires reimagined ceramics by Astier de Villatte. A standout feature is the use of the kintsugi technique, a Japanese art of repairing with gold, as seen in a 2023 plate with golden joints symbolizing restoration.

About the Brand
Founded in Paris in 1996 by Ivan Pericoli and Benoît Astier de Villatte, Astier de Villatte is known for its distinctive handmade ceramics, home objects, fragrances, and stationery. Drawing inspiration from the decorative arts, travel, and everyday rituals, the brand works with artisans to preserve traditional techniques that have largely disappeared from modern production. Its signature ceramic collections are crafted in a Paris atelier using black terracotta clay and finished with a milky white glaze, creating pieces that feel both timeless and uniquely individual. Balancing French craftsmanship with a spirit of curiosity and creativity, Astier de Villatte has cultivated a singular world where artistry and daily life intersect.
