If you aren’t already familiar with L.A.-based denim brand Simon Miller, you will be after this week. Designers Jake Sargent and Daniel Corrigan will join us in store from 1-5pm this Wednesday and Thursday with a slew of new men’s ready-to-wear and denim styles as well as unique Japanese Vintage Artifacts you won't see anywhere else. Can't make it during the day? Stop by for happy hour on Wednesday from 5-8pm for Japanese whiskey cocktails and bites from Lamberts.
In anticipation of their in-store appearance, we asked the duo 5 burning questions to get a little more acquainted.
1. So tell us, how did you two meet?
Daniel: Jake was working at Monocle Magazine and I was doing the denim development at Simon Miller. Jake loved the product and soon came on board as the managing partner and together we launched ready-to-wear and womenswear. It was a long journey to get where we are today, but it all started with lots of bunking up on couches and late-night brainstorming.
2. What inspired your current collections?
Jake: For Spring ‘15 we were inspired by indigo in all its natural states. We love the beautiful and unique color spectrum that the dye offers and wanted to represent a huge spectrum across all the clothing, hence “fade to white” as the theme.
Daniel: For the upcoming Fall ’15 collection, shipping this summer, we were inspired by modern architecture and simple functionality, so we landed on “minimal utilitarianism”. The colors were all so warm and beautiful and inspired from our love of the open southwest desert landscapes where we feel modern architecture flourishes.
3. You’ve had some amazing collaborations already, if you could collaborate with anyone past or present, who would it be?
Daniel: We love to collaborate with iconic brands that offer a product we don’t have in our own line. We have an exciting eyewear collaboration coming up with our favorite eyewear brand. Wish we could tell you more about it, but more to come soon! We think it would be pretty cool to collaborate with Nike someday, we would love to partner with an activewear brand to offer a technical element we don’t offer in our collection.
4. What's your one must-have item for spring?
Jake: A perfect vintage T-shirt
Daniel: White sneakers
5. If you could dress anyone living or otherwise, who would it be?
Jake: We would love to try our denim on Jane Birkin, she looks the best in cool jeans
Bonus Question: How would you describe Texas in 3 words?
Vast – Cactus – TexMex
