“If clothes could talk, mine would have many stories to tell!”
– Maria Cornejo
We are thrilled to welcome back one of our favorite designers as she celebrates the 15th anniversary of her eponymous brand. To celebrate such an exciting milestone, Cornejo recently called upon some of her most influential and loyal clients (including Tilda Swinton, Karen O, Cindy Sherman and more) to select their favorite Zero + Maria Cornejo piece and tell its story). In all, these 15 pieces were recreated in updated fabrics and colors and reissued as a special archive collection this spring. The result was not only a reflective look back at her incredible work, but a testament to her talent and design prowess. Even more impressive, Cornejo’s anniversary collection took over the window displays at Barneys New York earlier this year (from Madison Avenue to Beverly Hills and stores in between!)
An avid traveler and true artist, Maria Cornejo began designing her line because she was bored by the formulaic ways of corporate fashion. Using volume and circular shapes as a starting point, her modern and architectural garments are often draped and cut from one piece of fabric. Fitting with the By George core philosophy, Cornejo’s designs have long been admired for being timeless, feminine and unpretentious. Taking inspiration from other artists, cultures and her travels, Maria credits her husband in teaching her to “find the beauty in the unexpected.” We couldn’t agree more.
Stop by and meet Maria from 11am-6pm on Wednesday, April 9th at Flagship By George.
