The Woods Trunk Show
Join us next week on Thursday, September 22nd from 10AM–4PM at Lamar and Friday, September 23rd from 2PM–6PM at South Congress for a two-day trunk show with Shawn Hecox and Samantha Hitchcock of The Woods! We sat down with Shawn and Samantha to learn more about what inspires their collections and how The Woods came to be:
How did the Woods come to be?
We started the business over 10 years ago. We felt a need for a fine jewelry line that had an easy, not fancy aesthetic.
What is a typical day for you like?
We live in different cities, so a typical day involves a crazy amount of time on the phone with each other! Besides that, we try to get in a hike or a yoga class each day, and we plan our work day around our kid's schedules. We are so fortunate to have the flexibility in our business to be with them after school each day.
Where do you look for inspiration, who are you designing for?
Contantly changing, a lot of contrasts, not overly serious! Our clients are always inspiring us as well!
How would you describe your aesthetic?
Luxury meets low key, humor meets serious, hippy meets uptown....
What’s Next for the Woods?
For fall, we will bring in more neutrals and continue building the brass collection. We also keep experimenting with enamel with is a fun way to do color.
What’s your process?
It's very hands on, playing around with different beads, stones and finding new combinations. It's some trial and error, and a lot of sleepless nights with ideas popping into our heads. We tend to move on quickly with what we love but try to stay true to our roots.
Describe your workspace… or the factory that produces your pieces?
The main studio is in Denver and we have a smaller studio in Aspen. Our Denver studio is in a beautiful old building that used to be a dry ice factory. It's in a fun, thriving neighborhood called Rino. There are lots of great shops and restaurants. Sadly, there is no Elizabeth Street Cafe, our all time favorite restaurant!
What is your favorite piece of your collection, from any season?
We both love the 'princess' diamond necklace. It's really fun and unexpected to wear it casually with a tee shirt. This season we are doing 3 different options with varying sizes of the diamonds.
