We asked sisters Louisa and Pookie Burch for the story behind their current and upcoming designs, plus their can't-miss list of things to do while in Austin...
The Fall 2015 Trademark collection evokes a sense of sportswear, functionality and utility - what inspired those themes as you were designing?
Fall 2015 was inspired by Gary Winogrand's street photography. There was an amazing exhibition of his work at the Met last summer.
From scalloped edges to animal prints, there are so many unique details throughout. Which one in particular did you have the most fun with for Fall 2015?
The detail that we had the most fun with was the scalloping – it adds a sense of playfulness to our classic silhouettes.
Let’s talk Resort 2016, what were the primary points of reference behind that upcoming collection?
Resort 2016 was inspired by the early work of photographer Joseph Szabo who captured teenage American life in his 1978 book Almost Grown. We love the sense of nostalgia in his work.
You’re NYC-based, but do you have any favorite Austin locales on your radar to visit this trip?
We heard we have to try Franklin Barbecue and go to Barton Creek Greenbelt. We are also really looking forward to visiting Marfa over the weekend. It is only our second time in Texas!
What about are your staple wardrobe pieces this season?
How would you describe the Trademark woman in 5 words or less?
Classic and creative.
