We caught up with Austinite and The Dowry designer Courtney Jacobs Leibman to learn about the new direction for her fall collection plus a few of her go-to spots around town.
The signature Dowry style is dainty and delicate, but what inspired the move toward more substantial gold styles for fall?
I wanted to anticipate what my customer might want before they do. I was already creating a few styles for individual clients, so I thought I’d broaden the selection. of minimal, modern and wearable pieces that aren’t overpowering.
We love that your pieces are highly customizable and personal. Do you have a favorite story about creating a custom piece for a customer?
I just finished a diamond cuff with roman numerals commemorating a wedding anniversary - love that one.
This is a fun one, especially since you’re a local - but was there any particular place in Austin that led to a design of a specific piece?
Since moving to Austin, I’ve always been very proud of living here and what better way to celebrate the city’s energy than by wearing the coordinates?!
With fall right around the corner, what will be your staple wardrobe pieces?
Fall is my favorite season. I’m sticking to shift dresses and midi length separates. If I were to splurge, my favorite looks were from The Row, Altuzarra, Rosetta Getty and Gabriela Hearst ("city sophistication w/ rustic affection”).
How would you describe The Dowry woman in 5 words or less?
Modern, relaxed-edge, sophisticated, cool.
Personal style icons?
My imaginary panel of style advisors is quite large, it would include Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Hutton, DVF, Kate Young, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kelly Wearstler, Nanny and her bridge friends, Victoria Beckham, and Patricia Sudler Smith.
Let’s talk favorite Austin spots…
Place to relax?
I travel a lot, so being home is relaxing. Walks along the lake and around the Capitol.
Grab a drink?
For a bite?
Shop & stroll?
